5th Annual Tour d’Burg to Draw Thousands

Coming on the heels of being selected as one of “Ohio’s Best Home Towns” by Ohio Magazine, Miamisburg has again been chosen to be the site of this year’s Ohio State Cycling Championships. Miamisburg’s 5th Annual TOUR d’BURG, sponsored by Kettering Medical Center – Sycamore, will be held on Sunday, July 19, 8:00 AM – 4:30 PM in historic downtown Miamisburg, just 3 miles west of the Dayton Mall on Route 725. This event is free and open to the public with free parking.

Three components make this premier cycling event a popular attraction to both cyclists and spectators alike. First a family-friendly Tour Ride leaves Library Park at 8:00 AM for bike enthusiasts that want to tour the country roads from 25 to 75 miles depending on the riders’ preference. Food and water stops are conveniently positioned along the route. Last year over 200 riders from six states participated in this event. Download a registration form at: www.tourdburg.com

The focal point of the day is a one-mile circuit through the historic downtown, featuring top amateur and professional level men and women criterium racers competing in USA Cycling sanctioned races. Junior “crit” racers will start the day at 8:00 AM followed by the Masters, Men’s & Women’s races. Sprint speeds should exceed 40 mph with average speeds ranging 20 to 28 mph depending on the race category. The individual races will range in length from 30 to 60 minutes with fields upward of 50 riders. Over $6,500 in cash prizes will be awarded. Bleacher seats are available for spectators adjacent the finish line for comfortable viewing.

This free family event features a “village” atmosphere on First Street running parallel to the finish line between Central and Linden Avenues. Popular Miamisburg’s restaurants will have food available in the Food Court area, plus a Kids’ Zone, hosted by the Miamisburg Parks & Recreation Department, will supervise activities for kids of all ages.

Other participants will include title sponsor Kettering Medical Center Sycamore, KMC Sports Medicine, Five Rivers Metro Parks Outdoor and Heartland of Miamisburg. River Valley Credit Union will hold registration for free bikes plus other cycling items to be given away at the event, compliments of Heidelberg Distributing. This free family event also features a kids’ parade plus other activities geared to young children. Free kids’ bike helmets will also be given away while quantities last.

Specialty Races throughout the day will include the “Clergy Race” for those Men (and Women) in Black. Mayor Dick Church will again host the annual “Celebrity Race”, a crowd favorite with hometown celebrity emcee, Dale Huffman.

Hurry. Online Registration Still Available til July 17th!
